BELLINGHAM, WA – It’s been nearly two years since flooding devastated the greater Sumas area.

The City of Sumas and local partners will be hosting an event to prepare residents in the event of another major flood event.

Their Flood Awareness Day event will be held on Saturday from 9-10 am at 120 Vancouver St, under the old Shell station.

Volunteers will learn how to use the city’s sandbagging machine, which they must be trained on before the event of an actual flooding emergency.

Refreshments will also be available for participants during the event.

The event is free and no registration is required.
