BELLINGHAM, WA – (KGMI.com) Two Whatcom Community College international alums were just recognized for their positive impact around the world.
Najla Mohamed-Lamin was named on the BBC’s 100 Women 2023 list.
The 100 Women list is announced yearly, with the BBC selecting who they consider to be the most influential and inspiring women of that year.
Mohamed-Lamin is recognized for her work establishing the Almasar Library Center, which educates fellow Sahrawi women and children about the enviroment and health in south-west Algerian refugee camps.
And WCC International Programs alumnus Dr. Lina Finda’s work on studying malaria was documented in a Sept. 2023 New York Times article.
Dr. Finda also serves as the Deputy Head of Environmental Health and Ecological Sciences at the Ifakara Health Institute in Tanzania.
According to WCC’s website, the college is regularly recognized as a top community college in the nation for student success.
