BELLINGHAM, WA. – (KGMI.com) There is a winter storm warning into effect for the north Cascades.
The winter storm warning starts this morning at 7 a.m. and will remain in effect until 4 a.m. Tuesday, January 9th, when a blizzard warning will take effect.
It will be in effect for the Cascades and valleys of Whatcom and Skagit Counties, including the Mount Baker Ski Area.
Elevations above 2,000 feet could see up to four feet of snow by 10 a.m. on Wednesday morning, January 10th.
Driving across the Cascades will be treacherous.
Travelers should rethink their plans if they were going to head east over the next couple of days.
If you do have to drive across the Cascades, be prepared for high winds, blowing snow, and low visibility.
Down here in the lowlands we are expecting a mix of wintry precipitation over the next few days.
There will also be a wind advisory in effect for Western Whatcom County and Western Skagit County from 4 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Tuesday, January 9th.
Southwest winds 35 to 45 mph with gusts up to 55 mph are expected.
Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects.
Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.
