OLYMPIA, WA – (KGMI.com) In a unanimous vote, the Washington Legislative House re-passed a bill to ban underage marriage.

The bill also eliminates the provision that one of the county’s superior court judges could waive the requirement based on necessity.

The bill was passed by the House in March 2023, also by unanimous consent, but didn’t make it far in the Senate before the session ended.

Monday marked the first business day of the 2024 short legislative session.

It was the second bill to pass the House, preceded by a bill to adjust the state’s response to extreme weather events.

A third bill allows lot splitting for residential areas in an effort to increase housing options.
