BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A Bellingham couple is suing a federal agency and the City of Bellingham after a government vehicle struck their son.
Matthew and Lyndsay Stodola filed the lawsuit in the US District Court of Western Washington on January 2.
They claim that Matthew Murphy, a US Immigration and Customs Enforcement employee, was behind the wheel at the time of the accident.
According to their lawsuit, the Stodolas’ minor son was riding his bike through a marked crosswalk on February 10th, 2022, when Murphy struck him in his government vehicle.
They’ve also accused the City of Bellingham of knowing about faulty light beacons at that crosswalk and not taking action to implement additional warnings for drivers.
The Stodolas filed a federal tort claim against ICE last June, but their claim was denied by the agency in November.
