MOUNT VERNON, WA – (MyBellinghamNow.com) The Biden administration is investing millions for new EV charging stations around the nation, including in our region.
The City of Mount Vernon is receiving $12.5 million to install 78 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in a public parking garage in the downtown area.
The project will also accommodate another 200 stations in the future to support EV traffic on I-5, which has been designated an Alternative Fuel Corridor.
Other grants include $2 million for Port Angeles to build charging stations on State Highway 101 and $12 million for stations in Seattle and Tacoma. Over $14.5 million will also go to other projects around the western part of the state and northern Oregon, focusing on providing EV access to disadvantaged communities, including indigenous lands.
The funds come from the $7.5 billion infrastructure law passed in 2021.
The Biden administration hopes an expanded charging network will keep the nation on the path toward its goal of EVs making up half of new vehicle sales by 2030.
