BELLINGHAM, WA. – (MyBellinghamNow.com) A new study finds that Washington residents are spending more on their grocery trips than most of the country.
HelpAdvisory analyzed the most recent Census data from November 2023 to measure the average household spending on groceries by state.
It found that Washington had the fourth-highest grocery bills at just over $287 spent per week, a notch above the national average of $270.
Seattle households were found to spend the sixth-most of major cities in the U.S. at just under $290 each week.
The study comes as Washington State Attorney General Bob Ferguson filed a lawsuit last week attempting to block the proposed merger between Kroger and Albertsons.
Ferguson argues the $25 billion deal would raise prices, though Kroger disputes that claim.
