FERNDALE, WA. – (MyBellinghamNow.com) The National Weather Service has issued flood warnings to areas of Whatcom County near the Nooksack River.

Water levels have already peaked in areas near Acme and the Mount Baker Highway, but a flood warning remains in effect for Ferndale until Tuesday morning, January 30th.

As of 5 a.m. Monday, January 29th, the Nooksack River was currently just above minor flood stage in Ferndale at 18.24 ft.

Major roads closed due to floodwaters include Slater Road between the Ferndale city limits and Ferndale Road, as well as Hannegan Road between Front Street and Polinder Road just south of Lynden.

The NWS has urged the public to stay off of roads affected by potential flooding.
