BELLINGHAM, WA. – (MyBellinghamNow.com) Heavy rain forecast for Whatcom County could increase the risk of landslides through Wednesday, Jan. 31.

The National Weather Service issued a special weather statement on Tuesday, Jan. 30, warning residents of the heightened risk.

Forecasters also say the rain could increase the threat of river flooding in the North Cascades, but the Nooksack River is not currently forecast to reach flood levels.

Slater Road reopened between Ferndale city limits and Ferndale Road early on Tuesday after closing due to high water.
