BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A new elementary school could be coming soon to Bellingham.
Mayor Kim Lund and Superintendent Dr. Greg Baker say that they’re conducting a study into whether the new school can be built within the Civic Athletic Complex. The current building that houses Carl Cozier Elementary School would be repurposed for future recreational use by the city.
Dr. Baker says the district originally planned to build a “swing space” building in the King Mountain neighborhood while other schools were being rebuilt. That project would be put on pause if plans are approved to build a new school within the Civic Complex.
Instead, either the new or former Carl Cozier building could serve as the “swing space” while Columbia and Roosevelt Elementary Schools are rebuilt. The plan remains in the exploratory phase, but opportunities for public feedback are expected in the coming months.
