Three Whatcom County teams won state championships over the weekend.
The Lynden boys beat Grandview 85-54 to win their third consecutive 2A state title.
The Lions led by just a point after the first quarter, but outscored Grandview 19-5 in the second as they ran away with the win.
Anthony Canales scored a game-high 29 points and broke Lynden’s single-season points record.
Canales also won his third straight state tournament MVP award.
Brant Heppner added 27 points and nine rebounds, joining Canales on the All-Tournament 1st Team.
The Lions finish the season with a 24-3 record and lose six seniors for next year.
The Lynden girls edged Ellensburg 43-40 to end their 75-game win streak.
Senior Haylee Koetje hit the game-winning shot with just over 30 seconds left in the game.
Freshman guard Finley Parcher led the Lions with 12 points and 8 rebounds.
Sophomore post Payton Mills managed just five points but took home tournament MVP.
The Lions finish the season with a 27-1 record overall and lose four seniors for next year.
Nooksack Valley girls beat Deer Park 70-67 to repeat as 1A state champs.
Senior guard Devin Coppinger hit four key free throws down the stretch to take and maintain the lead.
She finished with 27 points to lead all scorers and won tournament MVP.
Coppinger is now headed to the University of Washington to play with the Huskies next season.
The Pioneers finish the year with a 26-1 record and lose four seniors for next season.
Meanwhile, three other local teams took home hardware.
The Lynden Christian boys beat Seattle Academy 70-44 to take home third place.
The Lynden Christian girls beat Wapato 72-64 to secure another third place finish for the Lyncs.
And the top-seeded Lummi Nation boys lost to 3rd-seeded Moses Lake Christian 45-40 in overtime to place sixth in the 1B state tournament.
The Seattle Kraken lost to Edmonton Oilers 2-1 on Saturday to wrap up their extended homestand.
It’s the Oilers’ sixth-straight win against the Kraken.
Seattle is now nine points behind the last playoff spot in the Western Conference ahead of Friday’s trade deadline.
They’re on the road tonight against the Calgary Flames, who are riding a five-game win streak.

The Western Washington University men’s basketball capped their season off with a win on Saturday.
They beat Simon Fraser 89-74 behind 26 points from junior guard Will Wilson.
Junior Kai Johnson added 18, he’ll finish the season as the GNAC’s leading scorer.
It wasn’t enough to qualify for the postseason though, the Vikings one game away from the final spot in the conference tournament.
They now finish the season with a 17-12 overall record and 9-9 in conference play.
Western has three seniors graduating ahead of next season.
Meanwhile on Saturday, the Viking women lost to Simon Frasier 68-67.
Senior forward Brooke Walling led the team with 16 points and 9 rebounds in the final regular season game of her career with Western.
The Vikings will open this week’s GNAC Championships tournament on Friday at noon.
They finished in second place in the conference to secure a first-round bye, and will start in the tournament semifinals.
