SPOKANE, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A Republican candidate for Washington governor is facing scrutiny over an unreported criminal charge.
The Seattle Times reports that Semi Bird pleaded guilty to a federal bank larceny charge in 1993.
Two years prior, Bird used his father’s name and personal details in an attempt to apply for a line of credit. Bird admitted to the charge in a recent interview, claiming full responsibility for the incident.
He avoided jail time and a $100,000 fine due to a plea deal.
The former Richmond school board member previously admitted to a felony theft charge from 1996. In that instance, he didn’t return a gun that was issued to him when he worked as a law enforcement officer. The change was dropped after the gun was returned.
Bird’s only GOP challenger for the governor’s seat is former Congressman Dave Reichert.
The state GOP will make their official endorsement for governor this weekend in Spokane.
