OLYMPIA, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Federal regulators have given a green light to the expansion of a natural gas pipeline that runs through Washington, Oregon and California, which those states oppose.
Attorney General Bob Ferguson joined his counterparts in those states to issue a joint filing against the project to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.
The Seattle Times reports a Canadian company already sends billions of cubic feet of fracked natural gas from Canada through the 1400-mile pipeline every day.
The three AGs argue that the huge expansion isn’t justified by demand, and that the project flies in the face of the states’ efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Their objections will now be heard in federal court, but the commission’s ok of the project will allow the company to begin construction on the expanded pipeline.
