EVERETT, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Authorities in Everett issued a warning after three children overdosed on fentanyl in four days.

The Everett Police and Fire Department said they responded to three overdoses involving children under two years old between last Saturday, April 20 and Wednesday, April 24. Two of the children are in stable condition, though one tragically passed away. Everett police are still investigating the cases, but do not believe them to be connected.

It comes after a Bellingham man was arrested in February after his child was hospitalized following a fentanyl overdose. Luckily, the child made a full recovery and was placed in the state’s care.

Police said even the smallest amount of fentanyl residue can be lethal to children and pills can look like candy to them, especially when they’re brightly colored.

The Center for Disease Control (CDC) recommends all families practice safe storage of medications to prevent children from accessing them.
