BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The City of Bellingham has started installing new bike lanes on Holly St.
The added space for bikes has reduced Holly to two lanes from Ellis to Commercial St. and one lane from Commercial to Bay St.
The project is testing out two different types of bike lanes: a buffered bike lane with a striped zone separating cyclists from traffic and a protected bike lane with a physical barrier between parked cars and cyclists.
The project will not interfere with on-street parking availability.
The pilot period for the bike lane will go through this fall to evaluate its effectiveness through the summer.
Community members will be able to give feedback on the project as soon as the bike lane installation is finished.
