FERNDALE, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A juvenile has been arrested Tuesday, May 21 in connection to the arson at a Ferndale park last December.

A trash can fire at Star Park caused an estimated $180,000 in damages to a Star Park picnic structure at approximately 2 a.m. on Dec. 27. A nearby bathroom sustained an additional estimated $300 damage.

KGMI previously reported on the incident after police failed to locate suspects at the scene.

Now, City of Ferndale spokesperson Megan Juenemann said that police obtained search warrants on phone subscription records from the area at the time of the fire. A subsequent warrant on digital devices allowed police to track a path that fell in line with K-9 scent tracking. Photo and video evidence on a device showed the can on fire and subjects adding toilet paper to the fire.

Juenemann said police are still looking for multiple juvenile suspects.
