BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Western Washington University Police are investigating a report of a hate crime against a Jewish student on its campus.
WWU spokesperson Jonathan Higgins says the incident was reported on the early afternoon of Friday, May 17.
The report stated that a student who was wearing a necklace with the Star of David was spat on by someone outside of Old Main.
Higgins says the school cannot confirm whether the act was committed by pro-Palestine protestors on its campus. He added that the university’s student services team “addressed expectations with demonstrators” immediately after the incident was reported.
Higgins says the team is “continuing to clearly communicate that this behavior was and is unacceptable, and will continue engaging with the encampment to reinforce expectations.”
An investigation into the alleged hate crime is ongoing.
