BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The strike is over for student academic workers at Western Washington University.
Western Academic Workers United (WAWU) said that they reached a tentative agreement on an initial contract with the school on Wednesday, May 22.
Many of the workers’ demands were addressed as part of the agreement, including significant wage increases and protections against harassment and discrimination. WAWU’s initial contract also features a pilot tuition relief program for undergrad workers.
Educational workers have been on strike since Tuesday, May 21, after months of bargaining sessions failed to produce a contract.
The striking is now on pause while members vote to ratify the initial contract on Thursday, May 23.
