BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The suspect in a robbery at Bellis Fair Mall was taken to the hospital after suffering an apparent drug overdose.

Bellingham Police spokesperson Megan Peters says officers responded to a robbery at Dick’s Sporting Goods around 4 p.m. on Monday, May 27.

The suspect stole clothing and other goods while implying that he had a weapon, though there was no evidence of one. He left before officers arrived, but they were able to identify him before starting a drone and K-9 search for him.

The suspect was found unconscious in a wooded area nearby with the stolen merchandise still with him. He was then taken to the hospital to be treated for a suspected drug overdose.

The 36-year-old man was booked into Whatcom County Jail on the morning of Tuesday, May 28, where he remains without bail.
