WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Some of the swimming advisories around Whatcom County have been lifted.

Whatcom County Health and Community Services reopened beaches around the county on Wednesday, June 12.

Larrabee State Park, Wildcat Cove, Birch Bay Beach and Tidelands are now open for water recreation. Lower levels of fecal bacteria were reported in recent sampling from those locations, reducing the risk for water-borne pathogens.

The advisories for Boulevard Park at Taylor Dock and Little Squalicum Park are still in effect.

A recent study found high levels of bacteria pollution near stormwater runoff outfalls in Bellingham Bay, including near Taylor Dock.

The City of Bellingham released a statement on Wednesday saying they are actively investigating the possible sources for the contaminants.
