SEATTLE, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A member of Seattle grunge royalty has launched a new political party for Washington state.
Nirvana co-founder and bassist Krist Novoselic told KOMO that they’re trying to do something different with the party.
The Cascade Party of Washington describes themselves as a centrist alternative to other political parties.
To gain support for his party, Novoselic has started a new band called “The Bona Fide Band” which will put on concerts that double as Cascade Party political conventions later this week. Their first show will be at Easy Street Records in Seattle on Thursday, June 20, followed by a World Music Day show in Aberdeen that Friday.
The party’s platform focuses on promoting family farming and agriculture, judicial reform, open and fair government, environmental conservation and a transparent healthcare market.
The former Nirvana bassist has been involved in politics since the early 1990s. He has been a long-time participant in Washington State Grange, which advocates for farmers rights. Novoselic also chaired the Forward Party’s Washington chapter in 2023 and served on the FairVote campaign’s board, which advocates for ranked voting ballots.
