The Mariners have the day off today after struggling in their weekend series against the Minnesota Twins.

The M’s won the opener 3-2 on Friday thanks to a walk-off by Cal Raleigh in the 10th inning.

But their offense sputtered over the next two games.

The Twins won 5-1 on Saturday, with Mitch Haniger scoring the only run for the Mariners on a solo homer.

Yesterday’s game was closer, but the Twins broke a 3-3 tie in the top of the eighth with a 2-run homer off Ryne Stanek to secure the series.

The loss snapped Seattle’s streak of nine straight series wins at T-Mobile Park that dated back to mid-April.

It was also their fourth straight series loss overall, as their lead in the AL West has dwindled to 3.5 games over the Astros.

The M’s will look to get back on track tomorrow against the AL East-leading Baltimore Orioles.

Coverage begins at 5:30 and first pitch is at 6:40 on KPUG.

The Kraken have eight new faces on their team following last weekend’s NHL Draft.

Seattle stayed local, selecting 18-year-old Berkly Catton from the Western Hockey League Spokane Chiefs with the eighth-overall pick on Friday.

He had 54 goals and 62 assists with the Chiefs last season.

They added seven other prospects in rounds two through seven.

The Kraken also made an early splash in free agency by signing top defenseman Brandon Montour to a seven year, $50 million deal this morning.

The 30-year-old is coming off a Stanley Cup win after spending his last 3.5 years with the Florida Panthers.

He’s been among the highest-scoring defensemen in the league recently, with 106 points over the past two seasons.

A Washington State legend made headlines around the NBA today.

Former Cougars star Klay Thompson is signing with the Dallas Mavericks, ending a 13-year career with the Golden State Warriors that saw him win four championships.

Thompson, one half of the “Splash Bros” with Stephen Curry, has made the sixth-most 3-pointers in NBA history.

The Sounders kept up their strong play with a 2-1 win over Chicago Fire FC on Saturday.

Albert Rusnak scored two penalty kicks to lead Seattle.

The Sounders extended their unbeaten streak to four matches with the win.

They’re also unbeaten in eight of their last nine as they even their record up to 7-7-7.

The Seattle Reign played Gotham FC to a 1-1 tie yesterday.

The Reign sit at 2-9-4 after playing their third straight draw.

Meanwhile, the US men’s soccer team is facing elimination in a must-win match against Uruguay at 6:00 tonight.

They likely need a win to advance to the Copa America quarterfinals.

It will be a tough match against a Uruguay team that has outscored their opponents 8-1 so far.

The Seattle Storm beat the Dallas Wings 97-76 on Saturday with help from Jewell Loyd’s 30 points.

It was the second straight game Loyd put up at least 30, after scoring 34 against the Fever on Thursday.

The Storm will bring their three-game win streak into tonight’s home rematch against the Wings.

Tipoff is at 7:00.

And the Bellingham Bells’ big rally for the first-half division championship was stopped short yesterday.

The Bells were up 5-0 heading into the eighth inning against Wenatchee, but the AppleSox strung together 11 runs over the last two innings to take an 11-8 win.

With a loss by Edmonton tonight, Wenatchee would secure the North Division championship and earn them a spot in the playoffs.

The Bells had previously sat nearly five games behind the AppleSox for first place, but won four straight games heading into yesterday’s matchup to put themselves in contention for the division.

They hadn’t allowed a single run to Wenatchee over their three-game series until they gave up 11 runs in the disastrous eighth and ninth innings of yesterday’s game.

The Edmonton Riverhawks can clinch the North Division and a playoff spot tonight in their game against Port Angeles.

The Bells, meanwhile, will look to earn one of the six remaining playoff spots in the second half of the season.

They’ll start against the Bend Elks tomorrow in the first of a three-game series at Joe Martin Field.
