SAN JUAN ISLAND, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The summer salmon fishing season is opening for one more day this weekend.

The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife has announced that Chinook salmon fishing will reopen in the San Juan Islands on Sunday, Aug. 4 only.

Fishers are limited to two Chinook per day, including no more than one hatchery Chinook, and a minimum size of 22 inches.

All other species of salmon have no minimum catch size.

Fishers have to release sockeye, chum, wild Chinook and wild coho. It comes as fishery managers determined that enough Chinook have remained in the harvest quota based on daily catch estimates.

Fish and Wildlife officials still say this summer is shaping up to be the highest catch-per-day year over the last decade.
