BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A hiker was hospitalized after being rescued southeast of Mount Baker on Saturday, Aug. 3.

The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office were notified that the hiker was injured near Watson Lakes. Bellingham Mountain Rescue Council and Skagit County Search and Rescue were dispatched and performed a steep-angle rope rescue to get the hiker to safety.

Once the hiker was carried out of the trails, their hiking party transported them to the hospital.

All rescues through Whatcom County Search and Rescue units are free of penalty or charge, entirely volunteer operated and funded by donation.

The Sheriff’s Office adds that the hikers were well-prepared, which allowed for this rescue to go smoothly.
