Updated at 11:30 a.m. on 8/12/24 to reflect the accurate number of Chinook fishers can catch per day.

SAN JUAN ISLANDS, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife has announced that Chinook salmon fishing will reopen in the San Juan Islands this Tuesday, Aug. 13 only.

Fishers are limited to two catches per day, including no more than one hatchery Chinook, and a minimum size of 22 inches. All other species of salmon have no minimum catch size.

Anglers have to release all sockeye, chum, wild Chinook and wild coho.

The announcement comes as fishery managers determined that enough Chinook have remained in the harvest quota based on daily catch estimates. Fish and Wildlife officials still say this summer is shaping up to be the highest catch-per-day year over the last decade.
