RUBY MOUNTAIN, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Another wildfire has been sparked near the North Cascades Highway on Ruby Mountain.

The National Interagency Fire Center reports the Ruby Fire was sparked by lightning on the south side of Ruby Mountain on the morning of Aug. 9.

It has burned 739 acres so far and is 0% contained.

Trails, camps and cross-country zones are all closed within the Thunder, Ruby and Panther areas of the North Cascades National Park.

WSDOT crews haven’t disclosed if the new fire will force additional closures of the North Cascades Highway.

The highway remains closed between mileposts 148 at Granite Creek and 157 at Easy Pass due to the Easy Fire’s proximity to the road.
