BLAINE, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A man is in custody after attempting to kill a woman in Blaine.
The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office says that the woman was dropped off by her attempted killer at Peacehealth St Joseph Medical Center around 3:40 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 20 with significant injuries. The woman was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center later that morning.
The suspect, identified as 43-year-old Clayton DuBois of Blaine, was detained by hospital security when he tried to leave after dropping the woman off.
DuBois told Bellingham Police about how he had attempted to kill the victim earlier that day before he had a “change of heart” and drove her to the hospital.
Bellingham Police say that he also admitted to consuming drugs and alcohol.
Deputies were granted a search warrant for a home in Blaine where blood was found in the garage, along with a pair of firearms.
DuBois faces attempted murder, illegal possession of firearms and DUI charges.
He remains at the Whatcom County Jail without bail.
