FERNDALE, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The final sentencing has been handed out in the overdose death of a 5-year-old from Ferndale last year.

Melissa Welch will spend four years in prison after pleading guilty to manslaughter in the death of her daughter.

The girl was found dead at her home on March 8, 2023, and tests later showed that she had a significant level of fentanyl in her system.

Investigators found fentanyl, methamphetamine and methadone in the home in areas they say were easily accessible to children.

The girl’s father, Michael Doane, is currently serving a four-year prison term after his sentencing last month.

Another man, Cody Craig, was sentenced to two and a half years earlier this month.

Both men were at the home on the day of the girl’s death.
