BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Bellingham is getting support from the state to expand its transition towards clean energy.

The state Department of Commerce announced on Sept. 12 that it was investing $37 million in 46 clean energy projects across Washington.

The City of Bellingham received $165,000 to evaluate several locations for large-scale solar energy initiatives. The project will give the city insight into the potential for solar development in low-income parts of the community.

Friends of Deming Library also benefitted from last week’s round of grants. They received just over $82,000 for rooftop solar panels to save on electric bills and offer power for electric vehicle charging ports.

The energy savings will help expand services and programs to the Nooksack Indian Tribe.
