LYNDEN, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A Canadian man was arrested after attempting to financially scam a Lynden man.
Lynden Police Chief Steve Taylor says that the victim was contacted by someone who claimed they needed to pay back tens of thousands of dollars they received by mistake.
The victim, identified as a 71-year-old man, was told to withdraw the money from his bank and an agent would stop by his house to collect it. One of the victim’s family members became suspicious about the transaction and contacted police.
Officers arrested the suspect, 41-year-old Zhijia Ma of British Columbia, after he arrived at the victim’s house Friday, Sept. 20, to collect the payment.
Ma was released from the Whatcom County Jail on Tuesday, Sept. 24.
