NORTH CASCADES, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – You may want to plan ahead if you’re hoping to visit Artist Point before it closes for the 2024 season.

Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) crews will be doing early winter maintenance on the Mount Baker Highway from Sept. 30 to Oct. 3 to clear hazardous trees, make guard rail repairs and sweep shoulders. During that time, the road will be closed from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m. daily near the Six Mile chain up area between mileposts 39 and 54.

WSDOT says people who want to travel beyond the closure points during that time can still do so at their own risk. However, they have to be past milepost 54 before 7 a.m. and won’t be let back through the closure point until after 4 p.m.

The road to Artist Point will not begin its seasonal closure until the late fall or early winter. The exact timing depends on the first significant snowfall of the season.
