BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – More locations have been added to Whatcom County’s naloxone kit dispenser program.

Whatcom’s Health and Community Services (WCHCS) announced three more dispenser boxes have been placed throughout the county.

They are located at the East Whatcom Regional Resource Center on Kendall Road in Maple Falls, the Bellingham Food Bank and the Northwest Youth Services Ground Floor Drop-In Center on E Street in Bellingham.

The dispenser boxes provide free naloxone kits, sold under the brand name Narcan, that can reverse the effects of an opioid overdose.

According to WCHCS, the dispensers are placed in key, discreet locations to ensure community members have immediate access to the medication. WCHCS says that naloxone is safe and easy to use and can even be used on someone not actually overdosing.

My Bellingham Now previously reported that the first dispenser was installed on Second Avenue in Ferndale in August of this year.

It is part of the county’s work to fulfill County Executive Satpal Sidhu’s executive order that urged the county to make a concerted effort to combat the opioid crisis.
