SEATTLE, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Sea-Tac International Airport is on track to have a record number of firearms confiscated this year.
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) says that two guns were found in separate carry-on bags on Oct. 28.
One passenger heading to Maui, HI was carrying a loaded pistol, and the other person traveling to Yakima was caught with a loaded semi-automatic pistol.
The administration says that the weapons are the 100th and 101st they have confiscated at Sea-Tac since the start of the year. While that number is still below last year’s total of 117, the TSA says that they’ll likely surpass that number if trends continue.
“At this same point last year, TSA officers at SEA had discovered 97 firearms in carry-on luggage. This year, we have already exceeded that mark. I ask all travelers to commit to doing better by being aware of the contents of your carry-on luggage and packing firearms properly for travel on a commercial aircraft,” said TSA Federal Security Director for Washington Greg Hawko.
They’re urging passengers who plan to travel with a firearm to unload them, pack them properly, and check the bag before getting in line for security.
Nationwide, the TSA says that gun discoveries at airports have declined since 2023.
