MOUNT VERNON, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Investigators looking into the deaths of two people in Mount Vernon this week believe the deaths were a murder/suicide.
Mount Vernon Police said on Monday, Oct. 28, that family and friends reported a 24-year-old male had gone to an appointment on the Friday before and had not returned. Officers found the man’s car near a building on South 1st Street and learned that people were also searching for a 61-year-old female who had not returned from her appointment at the same location.
When officers checked the building, they found both people dead with gunshot wounds.
Officers now say that the female victim was a member of the Skagit Behavioral Health family and that the male was known to her. They add that the firearm belonged to the male and was collected at the scene.
The investigation is still ongoing and Mount Vernon Police spokesperson Dave Shackleton says they are not releasing more information at this time.
