BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A county agency has approved their budget for the upcoming year.
The Port of Bellingham unanimously approved two resolutions at their meeting late Tuesday, Nov. 19. One resolution adopts the 2025 budget, while the other did not raise property taxes the allowed 1%.
The Port’s Chief Financial Officer Tamara Sobjack says that the Port has a banked capacity of roughly $3.5 million. Sobjack says that the banked capacity can be drawn upon at a later time, but it would result in a significant property tax increase.
During the meeting, the Port Commissioners discussed how the property taxes are actually decreasing because of multiple factors, including more houses in the county and higher property values.
The loss of Southwest Airlines from Bellingham International Airport resulted in a drop in expected revenue for the Port.
