The Seahawks no longer control their playoff fate.

Seattle fell to the Minnesota Vikings 27-24 yesterday for their second straight loss.

Sam Darnold connected with Justin Jefferson on a 39-yard touchdown pass with just under 4 minutes left in the game to deliver Minnesota its eighth straight win.

The Seahawks had a pair of chances to tie it or win, but Jason Myers missed a 60-yard field goal and Geno Smith threw his second interception of the game on their final drive of the game.

With the Rams’ win over the Jets, the Hawks now sit a game behind LA for first place in the NFC West.

They’re also out of the wild card running after the Commanders’ comeback win over the Eagles.

In order to make the playoffs, they’ll now have to beat the Bears on Thursday and the Rams in the final game of the season.

The Rams will also have to lose to the Cardinals this Saturday in order for the Seahawks to stay alive.

Former UW Husky Michael Penix had a successful outing in his starting debut yesterday.

Penix completed 18 of 27 passes for 202 yards in the Atlanta Falcons’ 34-7 win over the New York Giants.

He also threw an interception that bobbled out of the hands of tight end Kyle Pitts and into a Giants defender.

The win by Atlanta and the loss by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers shot the Falcons up to first place in the NFC South.

Penix will look to continue leading Atlanta to the playoffs next Sunday night against fellow rookie quarterback Jaden Daniels and the Commanders.

Hall of Famer and former Seattle Mariner Ricky Henderson died on Friday at the age of 65.

Henderson had a 25-year career in the MLB, earning an MVP award, 10 All-Star selections and two World Series titles.

He’s the league’s career leader in runs scored and stolen bases.

Henderson signed with the Mariners in 2000 and scored the walk-off run during their series-clinching win over the White Sox in Game 3 of the ALDS.

It was a rough weekend road trip for the Seattle Kraken.

They lost to the Vegas Golden Knights 6-2 on Saturday, then fell to the Colorado Avalanche 5-2 last night.

The struggling Kraken have now lost five straight matches.

On the bright side, new addition Kaapo Kakko scored his first goal with the team yesterday after being traded to Seattle last week.

The Kraken are off for an extended holiday break before facing Vancouver on Saturday.

There, they’ll look to snap their skid in the last game of their road trip.
