MOUNT VERNON, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Two people were hospitalized and another is in custody following a shooting in Mount Vernon.

Mount Vernon Police Lt. Dave Shackleton says the department received a report that two people had been shot in a residence just before 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 24. Officers arrived to find two men alive with gunshot wounds and another man outside the residence who is believed to be the suspect.

An additional person inside the residence claims that the suspect – who knew all the victims – had also pointed a gun at him. A firearm was found at the scene and collected as evidence.

Shackleton says the two victims, a 50-year-old man and a 53-year-old man, were taken to the Skagit Valley Hospital to be treated for what appears to be non-life threatening injuries. The 49-year-old male suspect was booked into Skagit County Jail on suspicion of attempted murder and assault.

MVPD’s investigation is ongoing.
