ROSS LAKE, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A Canadian man was arrested after attempting to smuggle drugs into the U.S. using a canoe.
The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office says that they were alerted by U.S. Customs and Border Protection about the suspect entering the U.S. illegally last Friday.
Border Patrol agents and Royal Canadian Mounted Police reported that the suspect had paddled across the border at Ross Lake in a stolen canoe.
The National Parks Service and CBP agents located the suspect carrying a backpack near Highway 20.
A search of the backpack yielded nearly a pound and a half of MDMA, which is more commonly known as Molly or Ecstasy, along with other drug paraphernalia.
CBP agents took the suspect into custody and removed him from the U.S.
