CUSTER, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A man was killed, and another man is in custody following a homicide in Custer.

The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office says that deputies were initially called to break up a fight at a home on Saturday night.

As deputies were dispatched, they received information that shots had been fired. They arrived to find 52-year-old Angel Rodriguez dead from multiple gunshot wounds.

Witnesses said that the suspect, identified as 43-year-old Valentin Rivera, and Rodriguez were both intoxicated.

Rivera allegedly tried to stop Rodriguez from driving when the fight broke out.

Two others at the home reported being assaulted by Rivera, which led to one of them being taken to Peacehealth St Joseph Medical Center.

Rivera was arrested and remains at the Whatcom County Jail without bail.
