BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Forecasters are warning that it is going to get cold in our region in the coming days.

Much of western Washington will see a cold front moving in over the weekend and sticking around into next week.

The National Weather Service (NWS) says that the temperature in the lowlands will drop into the 20s, which is the coldest this winter has been so far. The coldest days are expected to be Sunday to Tuesday.

The NWS is warning to be especially aware of the cold if not in adequate housing.

Bellingham’s severe weather shelter is expected to be open from Friday through next Wednesday, Jan. 22.

Check-in at the shelter is from 4 to 9 p.m. and guests must leave by 9 a.m. the next morning.

Ferndale’s shelter is currently open every night this week through Monday of next week, check-in is at 5:30 p.m.
