BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The City of Bellingham is considering giving funding to help Whatcom County operate its severe weather shelter.

The city council’s Community and Economic Development Committee will decide on whether to give up to $150,000 on Monday, Jan. 27. The money will go towards running the severe weather shelter and comes from Bellingham’s Affordable Housing sales tax fund.

Bellingham’s full council will confirm the funds if approved in committee later that day.

The Whatcom County Council wrote a letter to County Executive Satpal Sidhu last week asking for Bellingham to share funds in an effort to expand service.

Whatcom County currently solely operates the shelter and the interlocal agreement would not give the City of Bellingham control over its operations.
