The Philadelphia Eagles are Super Bowl champions.

Jalen Hurts won MVP and the Eagles routed Kansas City 40-22 yesterday to end the Chief’s bid for a three-peat.

Philly scored the first 34 points of the game before KC scored three late touchdowns, but it was much too late.

Patrick Mahomes was sacked six times and struggled under the heavy pressure of the Eagle’s defensive line.

Philly’s rookie cornerback Cooper DeJean got a pick-six on his 22nd birthday to help the franchise win their second Super Bowl in seven years.

 

The Kraken are on an extended break after getting a thrilling win over the weekend.

Matt Beniers scored on a power play in overtime to lift Seattle over Calgary 3-2 on Saturday.

The Flames got off to an early 2-0 lead, but Shane Wright and Andre Burakovsky scored late in the third period to send it to overtime.

Beniers went on to score his 13th goal of the season to help the Kraken snap their three-game skid.

Seattle is now off for two weeks before traveling to Florida on Feb. 22 to face the defending Stanley Cup champion Panthers.

 

It was a gorgeous day at Mount Baker yesterday for the final runs of the 36th Legendary Banked Slalom.

The snowboarding race featured over 400 riders from around the world.

The fastest overall time went to 33-year-old Tucker Andrews from Colorado.

He finished the race with a time of 1 minute, 8 seconds. 

Harry Kearney, also from Colorado, won the Pro Men’s division with a 1 minute, 9 second run. 

And Mary Rand of Rhode Island came in at 1 minute, 14 seconds to win the Pro Women’s division. 

 

The Western Washington University men had their hot streak snapped on Saturday.

The Viks fell to Seattle Pacific 64-63 to end their stretch of seven straight wins.

The Western women found more success in a tight 67-64 win over Northwest Nazarene to notch the fourth win in their last five.

 

Elsewhere around the state…

The Huskies men beat Northwestern 76-71.

The Washington women fell to #16 Maryland 81-73.

The Wazzu men edged Pepperdine 87-86.

The Gonzaga women beat Washington State 73-69.

And the Gonzaga men beat Pacific 78-61.

 

Running down high school basketball scores from Saturday…

The Lynden Christian girls thumped Lakewood 85-33.

The LC boys added an 84-57 win over Lakewood.

The Mount Baker girls fell to Mount Vernon 54-27.

The Baker boys suffered a tight 61-60 loss to Mount Vernon.

The Sehome girls got doubled up by Burlington-Edison 56-28.

The Sehome boys didn’t fare much better in a 61-27 loss to Burlington.

The Lummi boys topped Lopez 59-29.

The Lummi girls dominated Grace Academy 63-24.

The Blaine boys fell to Sedro-Woolley 72-44.

And the Blaine girls lost to Sedro 53-32.

 

The prep basketball season now heads to the district tournaments.

The opening round tips off tonight with three loser-out games.

In 1A play, the Mount Baker girls start things off by hosting Blaine at 5:15.

The Baker boys take the court right after against Blaine at 7.

The winners of both games will face top-seeded Lynden Christian on Wednesday.

And in 2A, the Bellingham girls are fighting for their season when they host Marysville-Pilchuck at 7 tonight.

The Sehome boys round out the opening round tomorrow night by hosting Marysville-Pilchuck.

Meanwhile, in Class 1B play, the Lummi girls host Concrete and the Lummi boys host Tulalip Heritage tomorrow night in the District 1 championships.

Both Lummi teams will advance to tri-districts, no matter the result of tomorrow’s games.

Ferndale does not have an opponent yet, as the 3A district bracket has not been scheduled.
