BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Travellers heading on Woburn Street in Bellingham may have noticed a major project underway near the Lakeway intersection.

Faber Construction says that their crews are working with the City of Bellingham Public Works Department to construct their new Operations Center.

The center, which is located at 1410 Old Woburn St., will be used to store large equipment used for road maintenance. That includes dump trucks, trailers and storage for sand, salt, gravel and brine.

This site was where the original barn was constructed to house Public Work’s equipment 100 years ago.

Faber adds that the facility is being built in a way that would accommodate more eco-friendly utilities in the future, such as solar power and electric vehicles.

In addition to the new buildings, the Whatcom Transit Authority will be adding a new bus stop, and more sidewalks will be installed in the area. Construction on the pedestrian upgrades are scheduled for the end of next month.

The new Operations Center is expected to be completed by June.
