OLYMPIA, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The Washington State Attorney General is taking action against a debt collection agency.

AG Nick Brown says that they’re suing Renton Collections, Inc. because they didn’t provide people with adequate information.

When agencies send out collection notices, Washington state law requires them to notify people that they’re legally entitled to any details regarding their debt.

Renton Collections, Inc. is accused of sending out over 400,000 notices that did not include those notifications.

Brown says that their actions amount to over $35 million in illegal debt collections, plus an additional $7 million in commissions.

Impacted consumers may receive some form of restitution if the judge rules in Brown’s favor.
