BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Bellingham Public Schools (BPS) want to hear your feedback on potential changes to the school year calendar and more.

BPS Superintendent Greg Baker shared the district’s budget plan in hopes of filling what he estimates to be a $15 million deficit this upcoming school year.

One of his proposals looks to reduce the calendar to 179 days by using a state waiver day, which would push the first day of school from the Thursday before Labor Day to the Tuesday after Labor Day.

That would also move the last day of school to Friday, June 12, instead of Monday, June 15.

Another proposal would implement optional $100 fees per season for high school sports and drivers’ education classes. The fees would support the district’s Project Free Education, which allows low-income families to use school supplies and participate in activities at no cost.

Community members can offer their feedback on the budget plan through Friday, March 28 at 4 p.m.

You can find more information on the proposals and a link to the feedback form on the Bellingham Public Schools website.
