OLYMPIA, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The Washington State Attorney General is among those continuing to push back against an overhaul of the Department of Education.

Attorney General Nick Brown says that he joined over a dozen others in filing a preliminary injunction motion on Monday, March 24. If granted, a judge could prevent the Trump administration from implementing mass layoffs and redistributing Department of Education duties to other departments.

Preliminary injunctions are typically granted if a judge finds that the actions of the administration would cause immediate and irreparable harm.

A group of 21 state Attorney Generals, including Brown, filed their initial lawsuit in Massachusetts on March 13.

They argue that federal funding and support for school programs are on the cusp of disappearing if the motion isn’t granted.
