WASHINGTON, D.C. (MyBellinghamNow.com) – U.S. Representative Rick Larsen is among a group of House Democrats who are trying to kill President Trump’s sweeping tariffs.
Rep. Larsen introduced a measure to push back on the tariffs with two other ranking members of Congress on Tuesday, April 8. Their resolution would end the president’s emergency declaration that allowed him to issue the tariffs.
There’s currently a blanket 10% tariff on all U.S. imports, along with more significant tariffs on dozens of the country’s key trading partners.
The representatives claim the average U.S. household will pay $5,000 more per year for everyday necessities as a result of rising prices from Trump’s tariffs. Their measure was introduced as a “privileged” resolution, which means it will likely be sent to the House floor for a vote.
If approved, it would effectively kill the tariffs, though the president is almost certain to veto it.
