BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Western Washington University reports that no international students have had their visas cancelled, but the situation is different at the University of Washington (UW).
UW said in a statement that 13 current students and 10 other recent graduates have had their visas revoked by the federal government. The cancellations came without any prior notice to the school or the students. The university says no specific reasoning has been given but doesn’t believe the cancellations to be related to activism.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Western Washington University confirmed to My Bellingham Now that they haven’t had any student visas revoked.
The Associated Press reports that more than 1,000 students nationwide have had their visas cancelled or legal statuses terminated.
It comes as a federal judge in Oregon ordered the U.S. government on Monday to restore visas for two international students and temporarily blocked their deportation.
