BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The Port of Bellingham is considering expanding opportunities for travelers to safely lock their belongings up.
The Port’s Executive Director Rob Fix was authorized to enter the agreement to install bike lockers at key travel locations during the Board of Commissioners’ semi-monthly meeting on Tuesday, June 3.
Pending Fix’s signature, Bellingham International Airport and Fairhaven Station will have bike lockers in the near future. The agreement uses grant money from the Whatcom Transportation Authority (WTA), called the Transit Access Fund.
The WTA will fund 90% of the locker cost and the Port will offer up the other 10% needed to install the bike lockers.
The lockers will have additional space in each compartment for travel materials, according to the Port.
The Port is installing the lockers as a way to increase transportation options, following feedback from the public that indicates the lockers would be used.
