OLYMPIA, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A group that helped defeat last year’s ballot measure to repeal a state climate law has been fined for failing to properly report its spending.
The Washington state Public Disclosure Commission penalized Green Jobs PAC $20,000 on Thursday, June 26 for not disclosing over $1 million in campaign spending during the 2024 election.
Green Jobs opposed Initiative 2117, which sought to repeal the state’s Climate Commitment Act where companies buy allowances for their air pollution. The unreported spending made up more than a third of the group’s total expenditures.
The PAC admitted to multiple violations of state disclosure laws, including filing key reports up to two months late.
Regulators say the delays deprived the public of key information just before ballots were counted.
The PDC says it found no evidence that the violations were intentional.
